The social mission of Butterflies Garden Restaurant is to
contribute to building a promising future for children and youth in
Cambodia. Decades of war, culminating in the atrocities of the Khmer
Rouge era from 1975-1979, created a severe disruption in education and
resulted in the deaths of more than 90% of Cambodia’s artists. We
contribute to rebuilding Cambodian society by providing advanced
restaurant training to disadvantaged youth, supporting original Khmer
performance art, and providing income-generating opportunities for
disadvantaged communities while providing a unique, first-class dining
experience. A portion of profits fund programs for disadvantaged
children and youth.
The butterflies in our garden are purchased from youth
living in a poor village near the Angkor archeological park. Many of
these children are able to use this income to attend school. For those
who remain unschooled, we are establishing Khmer and English language
literacy programs, including food supplementation.
