Butterflies Celebrates First Anniversary

October marked Butterflies first anniversary of operations in Siem Reap.  During that time, our staff has developed into an efficient working team and, based on customer comments, they are dishing up excellent food and service.  We are increasingly sought out by tour agencies, many of which specialize in supporting businesses that provide benefits back to the community.  Our gift shop now sources 80% of items directly from disadvantaged groups including families living with HIV and AIDS, widows, and persons with disabilities.  Beginning this month, we will have Friday night music and dance performances beginning at 7:30 p.m.  We are supporting the dance troupe to stage a traditional dance that has not been seen in decades, The Butterfly Dance.  Look for its premiere later this year.

We’ve received attention from several publications, including the November 2007 edition of AsiaLife magazine and even a mention in the Arts and Living section of the November 3 Washington Post.

Butterflies Selected for the 2008 Edition of the Stay Another Day Guide

Butterflies has been selected for a second year to be featured in the Stay Another Day Guide, published by the International Finance Corporation, a member of The World Bank Group.  The guide highlights nonprofit organizations and social enterprise businesses and encourages tourists to expand their site-seeing beyond the magnificent temples of Angkor.  For more information, go to www.stay-another-day.org.

Butterflies gets high marks from young travelers.

First time Cambodia travelers (Brett age 7 and Alex age 6) were recently interviewed by the Cambodia Pocket Guide on their impressions.  When asked what they liked in Siem Reap, one responded, "I LOVED the Butterfly place a real lot.  There were LOTS of butterflies and it was real fun."  He then mentioned a restaurant with crocodiles but, have no fear, there are no crocs in our garden, although there are in another Siem Reap hot spot.  To see the full article, which is quite charming, go to www.cambodiapocketguide.com

Butterflies’ Chefs Featured in Airline Magazine

Three of our chefs were pictured in the January/February 2007 edition of Bangkok Airways’ fah Thai magazine on the occasion of their graduation from the Shinta Mani School of Hospitality, a program that provides under-privileged youth training in the hospitality industry.  The chefs received training and on-the-job experience in some of Siem Reap’s finest restaurants before joining us at Butterflies.  Congratulations to Deth, Lam, Sokhon and Srey Moum on their graduation and for their excellent work at Butterflies, where they continue to receive mentoring and expand their culinary repertoires.  To learn more about how our chefs are doing, see
